Barryville Area Arts Association a wide range of classes, workshops, and groups for personal enrichment. To maintain an intimate setting and be sure Instructors are really accessible, most classes are limited in size to 6 - 10 participants. You can register for them online, or you can print and send in the mail-in registration form. We're now accepting reservations for the events below. Note: Please let us know about any course you are interested in that is not currently scheduled, and we'll notify you next time it's offered. Painting With Alcohol Inks Instructor: Jane Brennan Learn to paint and play with alcohol inks! Artist Jane Brennan will help you experience the thrill of bloom and the blend of alcohol ink, as these vibrant colors act and react. You’ll learn techniques like free flow, pouring, and painting on ceramic tiles, as well as other surfaces. All materials for this class will be supplied and you will go home with finished tiles. Watercolors are quick, clean, and portable! Study the basics of watercolor, and see why some say it’s the most exciting and expressive medium of them all. You’ll learn how to prep the paper and practice the different brushstrokes. Then our Instructor will guide you through the creation of your own monochrome picture, as well as a polychrome picture. You’ll also discover how to plan and compose a landscape, and add simple details. The cost of the class includes all the materials you’ll need, plus a nice mat and frame to take your creation home in. Tuition: $55 This class is not currently scheduled. With John’s guidance and an arranged still life, you’ll learn to develop your observational skills, drawing techniques, technical abilities, and creative responses.
The direct, colorful nature of pastels is ideal for capturing the qualities of immediacy, spontaneity, and sparkle. Bright colors or dark ones, sparkling clarity or misty atmosphere, landscape, still life, portrait—there’s no subject, style, or mood that can't be portrayed beautifully in pastel. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction, and is said to increases a sense of personal well-being. Join Zentangles Master Linda Cobb for a two hour exploration of this art form—no experience necessary. Tuition: $35 This class is not currently scheduled. "Fashion Intervention with Daria Dorosh" is a hands-on design workshop for people of all ages, genders, and experience who love fashion and believe in sustainable clothing design. (Click here for her bio.) She will teach you how to refashion old clothes into new ones! No previous skills required. Participants are required to bring from five to ten items that are stained, damaged, or no longer wearable. Favorite ribbons, buttons, beads, trims, and textile scraps are also useful. We’ll have a supply of scissors, needles, thread, and pins on hand, but feel free to bring your own as well. Make room in your closet, express your creativity, create a new wardrobe, and save space in landfills—all at the same time! Tuition for this session is $45.
